Paleo Diet Rocks! Live Healthier Eating Like a Caveman
Many new diets have gone mainstream only to be proven to be totally bogus. The diet Robert Atkins came up with was one of biggest crocks I have seen in my lifetime.
Most recently, I heard about a new health craze called the “Paleolithic (or Paleo) diet.” People following the paleo diet strive to improve their health eating the same way our cavemen ancestors did.
I will admit that the paleo diet sounded a little sketchy to me when I first read up on it. It’s hard not to be skeptical these new health food crazes when you’ve heard some weird stuff out there before.
Then I came to my senses. The paleo diet isn’t a new diet at all. If it didn’t work for our ancestors then you wouldn’t be around to read this blog post. I imagine when you are hunting down a mastodon you need to be in peak physical shape. Our ancestors needed a pretty high level of endurance to survive in prehistoric times.
After thinking about it this way, I decided it was a little difficult to mock our ancestors when they lived much better than we did. Seriously. They had to hunt for their supper from the day they could pick up a spear until the day they died. Our society lives has an epidemic of obesity, diabetes and heart disease. Who are we supposed to listen to here?
The paleolithic diet has been found to provide a number of benefits to people. People who follow the paleo diet have watched their health improve in a number of ways:
- They have reduced their blood pressure considerably.
- They have managed their cholesterol much more effectively.
- They have lost weight and they feel great!
So what do you eat when you go on the paleo diet? You eat modern foods that resemble the foods our cavemen ancestors ate. These include nuts, fruits, roots, vegetables and a variety of non-red meats. You will be eating a pretty varied diet that provides you with a lot of the nutrients you need to thrive. One of the key elements of the Paleo diet is limiting your carbs.
Many other diets have talked about lowering carbs, but this is the first one that really makes sense to me. Atkins told people it was okay to eat large amounts of saturated fats. Robert Atkins seemed to think that anything was okay as long as it didn’t have many carbs. While he advised people to eat bacon and cream, Paleo experts will tell you to eat nuts, fruits and poultry.
Which of the two sounds more credible?
I strongly advise you give the Paleo diet a shot. I bet you’ll be shocked by how well it works!
